“冠词：a、an、the 的用法”

• 马来西亚华人说英语最容易漏掉或用错的地方之一，就是 a、an、the 这三个冠词。
• a/an 用在职业、第一次提到的事物、泛指某一类；a 还是 an 看发音（元音音开头用 an），不是看拼写。
• the 用在双方都清楚是哪一个的具体事物，或特指某个群体；反而是泛指整类事物（复数名词/不可数名词）不加冠词。

职业用 a/an

说一个人的职业，用 a 或 an。

• He's an architect. 他是建筑师。
• She's a scientist. 她是科学家。
• My grandmother was a teacher. 我奶奶是老师。

a 和 an 的选择：看发音，不看拼写

• 后面的词以辅音音（consonant sound）开头 → 用 a
• 后面的词以元音音（vowel sound）开头 → 用 an

• She has a university degree. （university 读作 /juː/，是辅音音）
• It took me an hour to get home. （hour 读作 /aʊ/，h 不发音，是元音音）

a/an — 第一次提起，或泛指某类别

说某件事第一次出现，或者泛指某一类人/物时用 a/an。

• I saw a good film yesterday. 我昨天看了一部好电影。（第一次提到）
• Do you want a drink? 你要不要喝点什么？（泛指一杯饮料）

the — 双方都知道在说哪个

当说话人和听话人都清楚在讲哪一件具体的事物时，用 the。

• I'm going to take the dog for a walk. （双方都知道是哪只狗）
• Have you seen the car key? （你知道我在找哪把钥匙）

泛指一类事物：不加冠词

泛指某一类事物（不是特定的），用复数名词或不可数名词，不加冠词。

• Birds eat worms. 鸟吃虫子。（泛指所有鸟）
• Water freezes at 0°C. 水在 0°C 结冰。
• Children need a lot of sleep. 小孩需要充足睡眠。

特定群体用 the

如果说的是某个特定群体（不是泛指），用 the。

• We went to the zoo and saw the kangaroos.
  （特指那个动物园里的那些袋鼠，不是泛指全世界的袋鼠）
