“形容词：可分级 vs 不可分级” （Gradable & Non-gradable Adjectives）

- 形容词分两种：可分级（gradable，能配 a bit/quite/very 等程度词）和不可分级（non-gradable，本身已经到顶）。
- 不可分级再拆两类：绝对形容词（perfect、dead 等，只配 absolutely/totally/completely）和极端形容词（amazing、freezing 等，只配 absolutely/really）。
- 学完能判断一个形容词该配哪种 modifier，不再乱套 very。

可分级形容词（Gradable adjectives）
大部分形容词都是可分级的——可以有程度高低，用不同 modifier 加强或减弱。

常见可分级形容词：angry, big, boring, cheap, cold, expensive, frightening, funny, hot, interesting, old, pretty, small, tasty, tired 等。
例句：
- She was quite angry when she found out.（她发现后相当生气。）
- The film we saw last night was really funny!（昨晚看的电影真的很好笑！）
- It can be extremely cold in Russia in the winter.（俄罗斯冬天可以冷得极端。）
不可分级形容词 1：绝对形容词（Absolute adjectives）
这类形容词描述「绝对状态」，要么是，要么不是，没有程度之分。不能用 very，要用 absolutely / totally / completely。
常见绝对形容词：acceptable, dead, destroyed, finished, free, impossible, necessary, perfect, ruined, unacceptable 等。
例句：
- Thank you, I love it! It's absolutely perfect!（这是绝对状态，不能说 very perfect）
- Their farm was totally destroyed by a tornado.
- My work is completely finished. Now I can relax.
不可分级形容词 2：极端形容词（Extreme adjectives）
这类形容词本身已经包含了「very」的意思，所以也不能再加 very。要用 absolutely / really。
常见极端形容词：amazing, ancient, awful, boiling, delicious, enormous, excellent, exhausted, fascinating, freezing, gorgeous, terrible, terrifying, tiny 等。
例句：
- Did you see the final match? It was absolutely amazing!
- After 32 hours of travelling, they were absolutely exhausted.
- My trip home was really awful.（不能说 very awful）

常见错误
❌ It's very freezing today. ✅ It's absolutely freezing today.
📌 *freezing* 已经是极端形容词（超级冷），不能再说 very。
❌ The cake was very delicious. ✅ The cake was absolutely delicious. / The cake was really delicious.
📌 华语说「非常好吃」是正常的，但 English 里 *delicious* 是极端形容词，只搭 absolutely/really。
❌ I'm completely tired. ✅ I'm extremely tired. / I'm absolutely exhausted.
📌 *tired* 是可分级形容词，不用 completely；想表达「累坏了」换用极端形容词 *exhausted*。
